Seals Eastern has been molding Viton® polymers since 1960. We have experience formulating and molding most Viton® rubber grades including Viton A, Viton B, Viton GFLT, and Viton ETP (Extreme) into o-rings, gaskets, and other mission critical seals. Our compounds are mixed and molded in our Red Bank, NJ factory. Viton includes Viton AHV, Viton ETP, Viton TBR, Viton B, and other Viton polymers Generally speaking, products molded using Genuine Viton elastomers provide exceptional resistance to heat, oils, and chemicals. Viton® based elastomer formulations deliver a broad range of chemical resistance, continuous service temperatures of 400F, and low temperature capabilities down to -35F (i.e. Type 3).

Most Viton ® elastomers are categorized under the ASTM D1418 designation of FKM (the DIN/ISO counterpart to this designation is FPM). This class of elastomer is further categorized by types. 

  • Type-1 FKM:  a copolymer of hexafluoropropylene (HFP) and vinylidene fluoride (VDF or VF2). A Type-1 Viton is generally 66% fluorine by content.
  • Type-2 FKM:  a terpolymer of tetrafluoroethylene (TFE), vinylidene fluoride (VDF), and hexafluoropropylene (HFP). A Type-2 Viton is generally 68% fluorine by content.
  • Type-3 FKM:  a terpolymer of TFE, Fluorinated vinyl ether and VDF for low temperature performance.
  • Type-4 FKM:  a terpolymer of TFE, Propylene, and VDF.
  • Type-5 FKM:  a pentapolymer of TFE, HFP, VDF, Ethylene, and a fluorinated vinyl ether.

Viton-ETP®, also referred to as Extreme, is an FEPM class material and additionally offers excellent base resistance since there is no vinylidene fluoride in the composition. 

Do not be fooled by counterfeit "Viton" o-rings that often contain reground material and cheap fluorocarbon copolymers. Cheap imports will deliver inferior performance. Seals Eastern guarantees its Genuine Viton® seals are made using 100% virgin Viton polymers and are post-cured in accordance with DuPont recommendation.
